Rhode Island doesn't usually pop up when one is discussing hotbeds of new music but Rhode Island locals The Lexingtons seem hell-bent on changing that with the release of their album Get Lo-fi

The album is a collection of ornate indie pop songs written and recorded by the band in their own bedroom. The result sounds alternately like Belle & Sebastian collaborating with George Gershwin.

The album is organized so that each song is interspersed between Rocketship-esque instrumental pieces. These instrumental pieces, although sometimes quite cinematic, sometimes feel like experiments that deter from some of the best songs on here like "She Tells Me No".

The vocal work on the album by Eric Warncke and Audrey Kauch is also worth mentioning. They have a great interplay between them and songs like "Clouds" and "Walk" where they sing together are some of the best moments on the record.

If you would like to hear a combination of The Beach Boys and Camera Obscura, The Lexingtons Get Lo-fi is probably just what you have been waiting to uncover.

The Lexingtons are already hard at work on their follow-up to Get Lo-fi, a double-album called Choose Choice due out Summer 2010.
